Travel Globally, Drink Locally!

The Caribbean is full of beautiful places with white sand beaches, tranquil blue waters, lush tropical landscapes and lots of amazing beach bars!  We are Team Cocktail.  And as our name suggests, we like to drink on our travels and seek out the best beach bars!  Here are three of our favorite Caribbean beach bars.

Soggy Dollar Bar, Jost Van Dyke BVI

Once you sail up to this British Virgin Island you will discover that this is the meaning of “paradise.”

It is a small, secluded island that is untouched by commercial development.  As you pull up to White Bay you will see a beautiful beach spotted with beach bars. Our favorite is the Soggy Dollar Bar, named for the wet bills that patrons would bring in from the swim ashore, as there is no dock here.

Their house specialty is called a “Painkiller”, and it is our favorite tropical drink.  A delicious blend of rum, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juices topped with grated nutmeg.  The recipe portions are top secret, but be prepared…….they don’t call it a painkiller for nothing!  This sweet concoction packs a punch!

Bikini Beach Bar, St. Martin/St. Maarten

Team Cocktail - St. Martin Water Fun!

This half Dutch, half French island has no shortage of beautiful beaches.  But we have such a great time at the Bikini Beach Bar on Orient Beach we can’t help but go back every time.  Orient Beach is home to a nudist resort, but don’t worry my shy American friends, Bikini Beach Bar is on the conservative side.

We love everything about Bikini Beach, especially the fact that they actually serve drinks right on the beach!  So you can sit back, enjoy the sand and surf, and they will bring you your cocktail of choice!  Bikini Beach Bar has a large selection of house-infused liquors and liqueurs.  While their infusions have changed each time we have been there, we suggest you try at least one of their infused vodka’s & rum’s…ridiculous!
The Boatyard, Barbados

We love this spring break meets tropical island destination.  Because this hot spot is owned by a non-local, the cab drivers hate to bring you here.  But if you are looking for a fun day of drinking and playing on the beach, this is the place.

It’s a short cab ride from the cruise ship terminal, has a gorgeous powder white sand beach, a dock with a rope swing, and music playing all day.  It is the ultimate beach party!

They have many specialty drinks such as the Shark Bite, but more often than not, a Banks Beer or rum & coke will do the trick.  Listen for the bell at two o’clock every afternoon, it means free shots!!  So if you’re ready to party, head on in and line up around the bar.  And just so you know, the free shots are not served in glasses, they are poured right out of the bottle into your mouth!

Final Tips

Our final tip for your beach bar adventure…Travel Global, Drink Local! It is our motto to always drink local, so ask the bartender to serve you up his/her favorite local beer, rum, or tropical concoction…that’s the Team Cocktail way!

Cheers!

  • We do love our beaches, beach bars and tropical cocktails. Like we always say…life is best enjoyed in a t-shirt (preferably Team Cocktail), shorts, flip flops & with a drink in hand. Thanks for letting us be a part of the Ships & Trips blog! Cheers!
